Frequently asked questions
Why did Bremer become part of Old National Bank?
When the Otto Bremer Trust (OBT) reaffirmed its plans to transfer ownership of Bremer, the Bremer Financial Corporation Board and OBT trustees worked together to find a partner with a commitment to customers and connection to community similar to our own. Old National’s deep community focus and strong regional presence made it the ideal partner. Together, we are well positioned to provide expanded capabilities, enhanced resources and personalized service to support all your business and personal financial needs.
What does this merger mean for my accounts and services?
Your Bremer accounts and services will transition to comparable Old National products and systems later this year. We'll provide all the details you need in advance, including any steps you may need to take. You'll receive separate communications with specific information about your account changes and how to access Old National's online and mobile banking platforms.
Will my branch and bankers stay the same?
Yes, the familiar team at your local branch will continue to serve you, and you'll still work with the bankers and advisors you know and trust. Effective immediately, you can use your Bremer debit card to make surcharge-free cash withdrawals at any Old National banking center ATM.* Once the transition to Old National's products and systems is complete, you'll gain access to Old National's full branch network, providing even more convenient banking options.
Do I need to take any action right now?
No action is needed at this time. Your accounts and services remain unchanged. Just be sure your contact information is up to date with us so you receive all the important updates about the transition.
Will I be asked to provide personal information?
No. Bremer Bank and Old National Bank never ask for personal financial or account security information — such as your full account, card or Social Security number, or your passwords or multifactor authentication numbers — via outbound phone call, automated voice response, voicemail, email, letter or text message. If you receive a phone call or message requesting this type of information, please report the incident immediately to Bremer Customer Support at 800-908-2265.
What will happen to the Bremer name?
Following the systems conversion later this year, the name will transition to Old National Bank. During this interim period, our legal name will be Bremer Bank, a division of Old National Bank, until the full transition is complete.
How does the merger affect my FDIC insurance?
Bremer Bank became a division of Old National Bank on May 1, 2025. As a result, these two banks have become one FDIC-insured institution. Typically, FDIC insurance covers your deposits (including checking and savings accounts, money market deposit accounts and certificates of deposit)—up to $250,000 per owner per FDIC-insured institution. This means that deposit accounts opened at Bremer Bank prior to May 1, 2025, will no longer be separately insured from deposit accounts at Old National Bank after November 1, 2025. This six-month grace period provides time to review your deposit accounts to ensure your coverage is not affected.
Please review this important information regarding your FDIC insurance coverage:
When account opened | How FDIC coverage may change |
---|---|
Accounts opened at Bremer Bank prior to May 1, 2025 | Deposit accounts opened at Bremer Bank prior to May 1, 2025, will be separately insured from deposits at Old National Bank until November 1, 2025. This six-month grace period allows you the opportunity to restructure your accounts, if necessary. Certificates of deposit (CDs) at Bremer Bank dated prior to May 1, 2025, are separately insured until the earliest maturity date after November 1, 2025. |
Accounts opened at Bremer Bank on or after May 1, 2025 | Deposit accounts opened at Bremer Bank on or after May 1, 2025, may not be separately insured. CDs that mature during the interim period of May 1, 2025, through November 1, 2025 and are renewed for the same term and in the same dollar amount (either with or without accrued interest), will continue to be separately insured until the first maturity date after November 1, 2025. If a CD matures during this interim period and is renewed on any other basis, it will only be separately insured until November 1, 2025. |
* ATM non-MoneyPass® withdrawal fees and ATM surcharge fees will be waived for ATM withdrawals transacted at Old National banking center ATM terminals. All other standard fees and/or transaction limitations will apply. ATM deposits and other transactions will not be available when using Old National ATM terminals until Bremer products and services are moved to Old National Bank systems later this year.
