Bremer Bank, United Way team up to assemble 250 Welcome Home kits in Fargo for families transitioning out of homelessness

11.13.24

This fall, hundreds of families and individuals across the Fargo-Moorhead metro will receive Welcome Home kits filled with household essentials through the Bremer Bank Home For Good initiative. In partnership with United Way of Cass-Clay, the program provides kits to people transitioning from homelessness to stable housing, including those experiencing economic and racial disparities.

The Bremer Home For Good initiative is celebrating five years of partnership this year, and has benefited 3,500 families and individuals across the Upper Midwest to date. This week, Bremer Bank volunteers and United Way team members came together to assemble 250 Welcome Home Kits at Bremer’s Fargo branch before distributing the kits to nonprofit partners across the region.

“As we mark the fifth year of this partnership, we’re excited to continue to provide this immediate, tangible support to our neighbors as they transition to new homes,” said Julie Whitney, SVP and commercial banking manager in Bremer’s Fargo-Moorhead market, at the event. “Bremer is committed to cultivating thriving communities, and supporting stable, comfortable housing is a key part of this mission.”

On any given night, around 1,000 people living in Cass and Clay counties experience homelessness, including approximately 200 children. Each Welcome Home kit contains dining and kitchen utensils, dishwashing and home cleaning materials, personal hygiene items, and bedroom essentials.

Bremer’s Home For Good partnership represents the company’s philanthropic mission and the vision of the bank’s founder, Otto Bremer, to support the communities it serves. Watch a video of a Bremer Welcome Home kit’s journey.

“United Way believes every hardworking family deserves to realize their goal of moving into a place to call home,” said Kara Isley, president and CEO of United Way of Cass-Clay. “The need for stable housing in the Fargo-Moorhead area is growing. We’re grateful for our five-year partnership with Bremer and for its ongoing support of our community.”
