Yesterday, residents from Green Bay’s newest affordable housing complex, City East Apartments, gathered for a fall housewarming event supported by Bremer Bank and Brown County United Way. At the event, tenants from all 43 units received a Welcome Home kit – a reusable bag filled with household essentials provided through Bremer Bank’s Home For Good initiative. Bremer is a community-driven bank that is new to Northeastern Wisconsin.
This event will kick off Bremer’s 2024 Home for Good initiative, providing Welcome Home kits to people moving into stable housing, including those experiencing economic and racial disparities. Each of the Welcome Home kits provided to City East residents will include home cleaning materials and personal hygiene items, along with a cozy blanket.
The Bremer Home For Good initiative is now in its fifth year and has benefited over 3,500 families and individuals to date. This fall, 750 Welcome Home kits will be assembled during an annual kit-packing event fueled by Bremer volunteers. The completed kits are then distributed to more than 50 nonprofits throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin, which provide kits directly to individuals and families in need.
“When safe, reliable housing can be counted on, our neighborhoods are strong,” said Bremer President and CEO Jeanne Crain. “Since our founding over 80 years ago, Bremer Bank has prioritized cultivating thriving communities. This is the commitment we’re excited to establish with the Green Bay community through meaningful partnerships with local organizations like Brown County United Way. Welcome home, City East residents.”
“The value that City East Center provides to both residents and members of our surrounding Joannes Park neighborhood is significant,” said Robyn Davis, president and CEO of Brown County United Way. “From affordable housing units to health and education resources, this new home to many is already making a positive impact on the Green Bay community – and that is part of what we’re celebrating with today’s housewarming event. Support from committed organizations like Bremer Bank are what make these critical projects possible. We’re thankful for their collaboration and are excited to welcome them to the Green Bay area.”
