Donation to Family Promise Rochester made in honor of Bremer’s 80th anniversary
In celebration of its 80th anniversary, Bremer Bank today announced a donation of $10,000 to the Rochester nonprofit organization, Family Promise Rochester. The donation is one of eight total that Bremer is making to nonprofits that embody the bank’s three philanthropic pillars of economic empowerment, affordable housing and financial education across its footprint of Minnesota, western Wisconsin and North Dakota.
“Rochester has been an important, longstanding part of our eight-decade story,” said Bremer Bank President and CEO Jeanne Crain. “Family Promise Rochester does critical work in this community, and we are honored to support it through this donation as we further Bremer’s 80-year legacy, established by our founder Otto Bremer, of cultivating thriving communities.”
German immigrant Otto Bremer founded Bremer Bank in St. Paul, Minnesota, guided by his belief that if banks helped businesses in both the good times and the bad, then communities could thrive. Eighty years later, Otto’s legacy of cultivating thriving communities lives on through Bremer’s customers and employees, who help grow our region’s food, build our region’s economies and serve our region’s neighbors. Family Promise Rochester has been helping families experiencing homelessness since 1999. The organization owns a shelter that can support up to three families at a time, where they receive meals, education programming and case management during their stay.
“Since COVID-19, our waitlist for families who need shelter has continued to grow. Right now, we are at an all-time high with 35 families on our waitlist,” said Family Promise Rochester Executive Director Erin Sinnwell. “In spring of 2024, we are moving to a new space that will be able to provide additional shelter for 8-12 families. We are very grateful for Bremer's recognition of our work in the community. Their donation will go a long way in moving to a new space and being able to help more families."
